The Collective Protection Working Group deals primarily with collective breathing protection, in particular the filtered ventilation systems in (stationary and mobile) protective structures, sorbents, as well as gas and aerosol filters.
The focus of Collective Protection Group activities is carrying out different tests. The group runs an accredited testing laboratory for sorbents and breathing apparatus filters (STS 022) and the testing of collective protection filters (within the testing laboratory for NBC protective material STS 055).
The group is also responsible for the monitoring/assessment/testing of the relevant technical advances. It also conducts specialist studies, such as the implications of protective strategies and technical requirements for procurement.
In cooperation with the testing laboratories and the Infrastructure Division of the FOCP, the Collective Protection Group is involved in the quality management of components used by the Protection & Support service which are subject to testing.
The group also handled queries concerning the use of adsorption filters in ventilation facilities; in some instances, it may call on external specialist services.
