Individual protection

The key mission of the Individual Protection Group is to use its extensive scientific knowledge and testing capabilities to guarantee the effectiveness and quality of individual NBC protective equipment. The group has existed since the founding of the SPIEZ LABORATORY (history). Today, our work focuses on three distinct technical topics:

Personal protective equipment (PPE) is made up of several individual components which protect either the airways or the skin. Respiratory protection is the main priority due to the fact that the airways are more vulnerable than the skin.

Filter technology can be used to protect both the airways and the skin. For example, activated carbon is used to adsorb harmful gases, while particle filters are used to remove aerosols (dust).

Testing and advisory services

We can offer our customers a wide range of testing services and professional advice on all their individual NBC protection equipment needs. We are regularly commissioned by armasuisse to test the NBC protective material used by the Swiss Armed Forces. Our testing and advisory services are used by our partner organisations of civil protection and are also open to private customers on a contractual basis.

Our accredited testing laboratory for adsorbents and breathing apparatus filters (STS 022) regularly takes part in international proficiency tests. Close cooperation with international partners allows us to challenge and enhance our existing knowledge and expertise.
