Supply of reference chemicals

Catalogue

Over 1,000 unique compounds related to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), as well as associated products such as their precursors, degradation products and by-products are available from stock.

We can supply pure compounds or dilute solutions containing the desired chemicals. The identity and the purity of each chemical requested are, if possible confirmed by gas chromatography/mass spectroscopy (GC/MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-, 13C- and 31P-NMR) measurements. A wide variety of chemicals are available in laboratory-scale amount, i.e. in gram quantities.

For safety and confidentiality reasons, no complete catalogue is available online. Nevertheless, the following list features some of the main compound families (with examples) that we can provide:

Ordering

Reference chemicals can be supplied to Member States of the Organisation of the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). On request, we will provide as soon as possible an offer including the purity, the quantity, the current prices, as well as the delivery and the warranty period of the compounds.

SPIEZ LABORATORY is happy to help with any questions you may have regarding our products. We expressly draw attention to the fact that our products are intended for laboratory and research purposes that are not prohibited by the CWC (CWC, Art. II (9)).

Shipping

Taking the national and international transport regulations into consideration, SPIEZ LABORATORY will organize the safe shipping of the ordered compounds.

Particular case of Schedule 1 chemicals

Regulations

When working with chemicals, international regulations in connection with national laws have to be observed. These concern mainly public and occupational health as well as environmental issues. Handling and transfer in and between institutes, companies and countries is regulated. For the special case of Schedule 1 chemicals additional regulations (CWC, respective national legislation of States Parties) are in force.

According to the CWC an institute can be in possession of an aggregate amount of 100 grams of Schedule 1 chemicals for purposes which are not prohibited by the Convention, without declaring them to the National Authorities and OPCW.

Shipping

Orders from Switzerland: our national legislation has to be observed. No notification of transfer should be sent to the OPCW.

Orders from abroad: the procedure for the transfer has to be agreed and coordinated between the two partners. As transport by aircraft is prohibited, the procedure is actually quite complicated and probably about 6 months to a year would be needed for overseas transport. Up to now SPIEZ LABORATORY only has sufficient experience for transports within Europe, where such a procedure takes at least 3 months. At present SPIEZ LABORATORY cannot accept responsibility for the shipping of any consignments overseas.
